Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder and nearly 1 out of every 5 adults suffers from it in the United States. With this type of disorder, structural abnormalities cannot be seen with blood tests, endoscopy or x-rays. People who are suffering from bowels conditions can ease many common symptoms with irritable bowel syndrome cures.

The symptoms for IBS include abdominal cramps and pain, changes in regular bowel functions that include diarrhea, gas, bloating and constipation. Symptoms can range from mild to severe; with most people suffer with mild symptoms. Many symptoms may be worse in those with mood or stress disorders such as depression or anxiety.

Other symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome include distention of the abdomen, the feeling of being full, emotional distress, appetite loss, vomiting and nausea.

Irritable bowel syndrome cures:

1. Peppermint oil. This is a carminative herb greatly used for this disorder by ridding gas from the intestines. It is known to reduce pain and bloating, by blocking calcium movement into the muscle cells of the intestines which eases muscle contractions.

2. Probiotics. These are live microbial organisms that are naturally found in the digestive tract and often referred to as ‘friendly’ bacteria. Probiotics promote health by suppressing growth of harmful bacteria, improving the immune system and improving the protective barrier in the digestive tract.

3. Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum. Also known as PHGG. It is a non-gelling, water soluble fiber that aid in reducing constipation and lessens abdominal pain and diarrhea for those with IBS. It also is seen to increase the amount of helpful bacteria in the intestines (bifidobacteria and lactobacilli).
